Montague Eagles Shine Across Sports
Over the past few weeks, the Montague Eagles have delivered standout performances across cross country, football, and volleyball, with athletes continuing to showcase growth, grit, and Eagle pride.
Cross Country
The Eagles boys’ cross country team placed 7th overall out of 14 teams in their latest meet at Midway. Levi Newland led the way, capturing 1st place with a time of 11:56. He was followed by Caiden Young, 28th (14:10); Cason Harris, 50th (15:25); Aiden Chavez, 62nd (15:55); and Cutter Garrett, 73rd (16:13). Rounding out the lineup were Jerry Bonilla, 80th (16:26); Brazos Jones, 90th (16:56); Colt Garrett, 114th (18:34); and Kyler Fomby, 123rd (19:49) among 140 runners.
On the girls’ side, Sage Keck took 3rd place in 12:36. Kenzi McEwen placed 27th (15:52), while Joanna Parr finished 108th (22:20); Courtney Bobbitt, 113th (22:51); and Madison Fomby, 125th (26:19) in a field of 126 runners.
At an earlier meet in Lindsay, the team battled heavy mud conditions. Newland earned a 2nd-place finish (12:09), followed by Young in 19th (13:47) and Harris in 33rd (14:27). Bonilla (47th, 15:21), Chavez (64th, 15:53), Jones (75th, 16:25), Alex Chavez (92nd, 18:10), and Fomby (99th, 19:19) rounded out the boys’ results. For the girls, Keck once again secured 3rd place (12:49), with McEwen (20th, 15:31), Parr (57th, 18:26), Bobbitt (97th, 20:05), and Fomby (119th, 24:17) following.
Football
The Eagles’ football squad turned in two thrilling performances. Against Prairie Valley, Montague rolled to a 63-7 victory, powered by a career night from Cason Harris, who scored seven total touchdowns — four rushing, one receiving, and two on defense via fumble returns. Quarterback Brazos Jones added a rushing and a passing touchdown, while Caiden Young had a pick-six as the defense stifled Prairie Valley to a single score.
The following week, Montague battled Saint Jo to a dramatic 47-47 tie in an offensive shootout. Harris again led the charge with six rushing touchdowns, while Jones added a rushing score and converted key extra points. Defensively, Chavez and Young each tallied eight tackles to help secure the hard-fought draw.
The Eagles now sit at 2-0-1, riding momentum into their next matchup.
Volleyball
The Lady Eagles volleyball team also found success, traveling to Gold-Burg and winning convincingly in two sets, 25-12 and 25-9. Top performances included:
