Montague Cross Country Teams Open Season Strong at Decatur
The Montague Cross Country teams opened their season early Saturday morning at Decatur High School, competing against several larger schools and showing impressive results.
The Eagles boys’ team placed second overall, led by standout performances across the roster. Levi Newland set the tone with a first-place finish and a personal record time of 11:40. Caiden Young followed with a strong run of 13:18, narrowly missing a top-ten finish. Cason Harris (14:20), Jerry Bonilla (14:23), and Aiden Chavez (14:29) crossed the line in quick succession, while Brazos Jones set a personal record of 15:48. Kyler Fomby rounded out the team effort with a solid 17:29 finish.
The Lady Eagles earned a fifth-place team finish highlighted by another top performance. Sage Keck secured second place overall with a personal record of 12:42. Kenzi McEwen also ran a personal best of 15:34, placing in the top 20. Presley Gonzales (17:41) and Joanna Parr (17:49), both new to cross country, ran back-to-back finishes, while Courtney Bobbitt (19:42) and Madison Fomby (22:04) closed out the race with strong efforts.
The meet marked an encouraging start to the season for Montague. Both teams showed depth, determination, and early progress that coaches expect will continue to build in the coming weeks.
