Montague Runners Show Grit at Lake Bridgeport Meet

The Montague Middle School cross country teams traveled to Lake Bridgeport for their second meet of the season, facing a tough and demanding course in hot conditions. Despite the challenges, both teams delivered strong performances, with the boys finishing 8th overall out of 19 teams and the girls earning 13th overall out of 17.

Leading the way for the Eagles was Levi Newland, who claimed first place with a time of 12 minutes, 51 seconds, outpacing the field in the boys’ division. He was followed by teammates Caiden Young (15:12), Jerry Bonilla (16:53), Aiden Chavez (17:12), Brazos Jones (18:22), Kyler Fomby (23:54), and Hayden Hennessey (25:45), helping secure the team’s top-10 finish.

On the girls’ side, Sage Keck turned in an impressive performance, taking second place overall with a time of 14:04. Other finishers for Montague included Kenzie McEwen (17:50), Presely Gonzales (23:00), Courtney Bobbitt (23:33), Joanna Parr (23:47), and Madison Fomby (31:01).

Coaches praised the determination of the runners, noting the difficulty of the course and the high level of competition. “That was not an easy race by any means, but our athletes showed grit and pride from start to finish."

The Eagles will look to build on this performance as they continue their season in the coming weeks.
