Montague Celebrates at Banquet

Montague ISD hosted their annual junior high awards banquet on Monday night. Academic awards were presented to students and our Valedictorian Lily Hamilton and Salutatorian Emma Read.

Denise Bell was named Montague ISD’s Junior High Teacher of the Year and Kristi Eldred was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year for the 2022-23 school year. Mrs. Bell also received this award in 2017-18 and 2021-22.  She teaches 4th-8th grade mathematics and is the cheerleading sponsor.  She has been in education for 13 years with 8 of them being at MISD. Kristi Eldred teaches 3rd grade and is in her first year at MISD with 17 years total in education. This award is voted on by co-workers.

Sue Acuna was inducted into Montague ISD’s Wall of Honor as the 7th inductee of outstanding educators. Sue worked at MISD for 25 years and retired in 2005.

School Board President Chris Hamilton presented teachers who qualified for the Teacher Incentive Allotment program their checks at the banquet. This was an exciting night as MISD had 8 teachers who qualified for a rating through TIA. $124,530 was given to teachers Denise Bell, Staley Keck, Jesse Romine, Julie Harris, Julia Davis, Emily Davis, Lila Keck, and Patty Richardson. Their rating will stay on their certificate for five years and they will get the stipend each year for five years.
