Lady Eagles Claim Consolation Championship at Windthorst Tournament

The Montague Lady Eagles battled through a long day of volleyball on Saturday, capturing the consolation championship at the Windthorst Tournament. With 7 of their 10 players in 6th or 7th grade, the Lady Eagles competed in the 7th-grade division against much larger schools.

The tournament began bright and early with an 8:00 a.m. matchup against Henrietta. Montague pushed the contest to three sets before falling in a thriller, 19-25, 25-20, 11-15. After the tough loss, the Lady Eagles bounced back and caught fire, winning their next three matches. They topped Archer City in another three-set battle (26-28, 25-16, 15-7), defeated Harold in straight sets (25-18, 25-9), and capped off the day by securing the consolation championship with a strong performance against Breckenridge, 25-13, 25-18.

Stat leaders played a huge role in Montague’s run. Lily Gray was dominant at the service line with 22 aces on 90% serving, while Sage Keck added 9 aces at a 93% clip. Keck anchored the defense with an incredible 78 digs—nearly 20 per match—while Gray contributed 27 digs of her own. At the net, JoAnna Parr powered the offense with 27 kills, supported by Cayde Harris with 10 kills and Madison Fomby with 9. Gray also kept the attack flowing with 29 assists.

The Lady Eagles will return to action Thursday, October 2, when the White Team travels to Gold-Burg for a 4:30 p.m. matchup.
