The Montague Lady Eagles won an exciting road game against Forestburg Thursday night. Montague led 7-2 at the end of the 1st quarter but got into foul trouble in the 2nd quarter. With 3 starters on the bench, Montague trailed at half-time 11-14. Montague regrouped and switched to a zone defense and came back to outscore the Lady Longhorns 11-8 in the 3rd quarter and 11-1 in the 4th to win the game 33-23. Montague made the most 3 pointers to date with Aubree Kleinhans nailing 2/4 and Paige Davis 2/5. Davis led in scoring with 12 points, added 13 rebounds and 2 assists, while Kleinhans contributed 7 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Chloe Broussard had 4 points, Bayler Smith 4 points and 5 steals, Emma Read 4 points, 1 charge and Brylie Hager 2 points. Tinley Cable contributed 2 assists. Montague is 8-0 in district play.

The Eagles entered the game unbeaten in district at 6-0. In the first quarter, the Eagles opened up a big lead with the press, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on easy scoring opportunities as a result. With a 16-4 lead to start the second quarter, the Eagles would never look back, adding more transition scoring and solid half-court offense for the next three quarters on their way to a 49-14 win on the road. The Eagles improved the overall record to 7-2 and their district record to 7-0 for the season. The leading scorer for the Eagles was Karson Kleinhans with 15 points. Other scorers were Cooper Martin with 9, Caden Belcher with 8, Brady Moore with 6 points, Lane Smith with 3, and Josiah Messer with 2. 

The Eagles also competed in the Chico Tournament Saturday. They started the morning off beating Nocona 37-20 and Petrolia 47-27, before falling to Boyd in the championship game 24-45.

Montague will travel to Slidell Monday.
