Both Teams Win Again

After Prairie Valley canceled their game with the Montague Lady Eagles, Bellevue agreed to host the Lady Eagles for a competitive game Thursday night. The half-time score of 22-5 in favor of Montague did not reflect the closeness of the game. Montague closed the game out 32-19 with 6th grader Paige Davis leading the way with a double double of 12 points and 11 rebounds to go with 2 blocks and 2 assists. Aubree Kleinhans chipped in 11 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals while Brylie Hager had 3 points. Chloe Broussard scored a basket to go with 4 steals while TInley Cable had 2 points also and 3 steals. Raylea Bowles came off the bench to score 2 points and Bayler Smith contributed 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Montague is now 9-0 and will compete in the Nortex Communications Cooke County Shootout in Gainesville Saturday.

The boy's team hosted Prairie Valley. Undefeated before the break, the Eagles learned quickly that they would have to battle until the very end in this matchup to keep their unbeaten streak alive. In the first quarter, the Bulldogs came out tough on defense, jumping out to a 10-4 lead before a late bucket just prior to the end of the quarter by Karson Kleinhans to make the score Bulldogs 10, Eagles 6. In the second quarter, the Eagles offense came to life as they outscored the Bulldogs 10-5 to make the score Eagles 16, Bulldogs 15 at the half. The third quarter was an offensive struggle for both teams, each scoring 4, with a great defensive effort on either end of the court. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Eagles held on by a slim margin, 20-19. In the final quarter, the Eagles dug in defensively and were able to produce just enough on the offensive end to squeak out a 27-24 win after a missed 3 to tie the game by the Bulldogs as time expired and the Eagles remained undefeated for the season. The win improves the Eagles record to 6-0 for the year. The leading scorer for Montague was Karson Kleinhans with 11 points. Other scorers were Hunter Parr with 8 points, Brady Moore with 6, and Caden Belcher added 2.

Montague will host Saint Jo Monday night with 8th grade parent/athlete night beginning at 5:45.
