Girls and Boys Win Final Tournament

Montague girls and boys took home 1st place in the Windthorst 7th grade A team tournament on Saturday.
Montague boys improved to 10-3 for the year. The Eagles opened the tournament with a 55-35 win over Petrolia. Keck Jones scored 10, Brenton Vineyard 23, Preston Cunningham 4, Brendan Ramsey 14 and Anthony Rios 4. Ramsey played one of his best games of the year at both ends of the court. Long from Petrolia made a miracle shot to end the game from about 75 feet. He finished the game with 18 points. In the championship game, Montague defeated Electra 46-22. Jones had 8 and made an excellent behind the back pass for an assist. Vineyard had 17, Cunningham 4, Dakota Inmon had 6, Ramsey 8 and Rios 3.
The Montague girls team beat Petrolia in their first game 48-11 and Windthorst in the championship game 48-42. "I am so proud of the girls and so proud to be their coach," says Coach Cromleigh, "They are awesome!" Scoring in the Petrolia game: Angel Rhudy 25, Yvonne Croxton 12, Paighton Gardner 8, Chloey Hamilton 3. Windthorst game: Gardner 20, Hamilton 12, Rhudy 10, Croxton 5 and Brenda Tully 1.
The Lady Eagles traveled to Forestburg to end the season with a win! They came away with a 47-17 win. The Lady Eagles ended up undefeated in district play for the 2011-12 season making them the "District Champs." " I am so proud of the girls, they really came together with their awesome man defense, hard work and hustle, great passing, awesome rebounding and phenomenal shooting! These girls gave their all every single game. They earned this championship. They peaked at the right time!" says Coach Cromleigh. Scoring: Paighton Gardner 20 points, Angel Rhudy 16, Taylor Thompson 7, Katie Howard 2 and Yvonne Croxton 1.
The boys team ended their season with a bit of revenge at Forestburg defeating the Longhorns 48-26. Earlier in the year Forestburg won 41-33. The Eagles led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter although they scored only one field goal. Brenton Vineyard made eight free throws in the first six minutes of play. The Longhorns mounted a comeback in the second quarter and trailed 13-16 at the half. Montague responded to the challenge and led 30-18 at the end of the third and closed out the game with 18 4th quarter points to wind up with 48 for the night. Keck Jones did an excellent job on defense from his point guard position. Vineyard had his best night of the year at both ends of the court. He led all scorers with 30 and was 12 of 12 from the free throw line. Preston Cunningham scored 5, Dakota Inmon 3, Brendan Ramsey 7 and Anthony Rios 3. The Eagles finish the season with an 11-3 record and are to be commended on their work ethic and good sportsmanship.
