It was a strong night of basketball for Montague as both the Lady Eagles and the Eagles earned commanding victories over Forestburg, pushing each team to a perfect 3–0 record in district play.
Montague Lady Eagles Extend District Streak with 23–9 Win
The Montague Lady Eagles continued their impressive district run with a decisive 23–9 victory over the Forestburg Lady Horns. Montague’s defense set the tone early, limiting Forestburg’s opportunities and controlling the pace from start to finish.
Sage Keck led the team with 12 points, including her first-ever 3-pointer, energizing both the crowd and her teammates. Joanna Parr added 5 points, while Kynzlea Rios, Madison Fomby, and Jalena Rodriguez each contributed 2 points. The Lady Eagles also shot 80 percent from the free-throw line, going 4-for-5 to help secure the win.
Their teamwork, defensive pressure, and growing confidence continue to push them forward as district play continues.
Montague Eagles Dominate Home Opener with 77–14 Victory
The Montague Eagles delivered an overwhelming 77–14 win over the Forestburg Longhorns in their first home game of the season. From the opening tip, the Eagles controlled the game with fast-paced offense, strong rebounding, and balanced scoring across the roster.
Levi Newland led the way with 21 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds. Aiden Chavez powered inside with 20 points, 17 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Cason Harris added 12 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds.
A highlight of the night came from Brazos Jones, who recorded 9 blocks to set a new Montague program record, while also adding 11 points and 9 rebounds. Additional contributions came from Caiden Young with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals; Alex Chavez with 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists; and Jake Harner with 2 points.
With both teams now 3–0, Montague looks to continue the momentum. Their next game is Thursday, December 11th at home against Midway.
The Montague Lady Eagles kicked off their basketball season with an impressive 25-12 victory over the Gold-Burg Lady Bears. The win came as a result of an outstanding overall team effort, with every player contributing to the success on both ends of the floor. The Lady Eagles’ communication and intensity on defense set the tone early, limiting Gold-Burg’s scoring opportunities and creating fast-break chances. On offense, teamwork and ball movement helped the team find open shots and maintain control throughout the game. Coach and players alike credited the win to everyone doing the little things right—talking on defense, hustling for loose balls, and supporting one another from start to finish. With their first game of the season in the books, the Lady Eagles are looking forward to building on this strong start.
The Montague Eagles delivered one of the most dominant performances in school basketball history Thursday night, beating the Gold-Burg Bears 78–3 behind smothering defense, unselfish ball movement, and a series of standout individual performances. From the opening tip, Montague set the tone, blitzing Gold-Burg on both ends of the floor. The Eagles’ defense proved impenetrable, forcing turnovers at a staggering rate, while their offense fired with precision and balance. Aiden Chavez led all scorers with 24 points on an efficient 12-of-16 shooting night. Chavez also filled the stat sheet with 5 rebounds and 4 assists, attacking the basket at will and finishing through contact with consistency. Right behind him was Levi Newland, who poured in 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting, while contributing 6 assists and 6 steals. Newland controlled the tempo of the game, igniting fast breaks and disrupting passing lanes all night long. Brazos Jones shot lights-out, converting 6 of 7 field goal attempts for 12 points, adding 3 assists and 3 boards in a performance marked by efficiency and smart decision-making. But the defensive headline of the night belonged to Cason Harris, who etched his name into the Montague record books, breaking a record set by Conley Kleinhans in 2020. Harris set a new school record with 13 steals, a jaw-dropping number that reflected the Eagles' relentless pressure. On top of that, he added 6 assists and chipped in offensively, shooting 5-of-10 from the field. Caiden Young showcased his all-around game with 9 points (4-of-10 FG), 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, playing a steady hand in an attack that featured contributions from every corner of the roster. Rounding out the scoring, Hayden Hennessey delivered a perfect 1-for-1 shooting night for 2 points and added 1 steal, helping keep the defensive intensity locked in until the final buzzer.
Up next: Both teams return to action Thursday (November 20th) as they look to carry their high-flying play into another district battle.
